The End of the World As We Know It

Kreg Ertman Posted on December 21, 2012 Posted in Tips No Comments

So we were told that some time today, we’re suppose to begin a new way of Life — an end of a cycle, but all I can think of is the REM song, “…and I feel fine.”  So all the while, I’m still waiting…another six hours or so.  However, that’s not why I’m here.  😉

Looking out the window today, I saw a squirrel hauling tail down the street and up the typical concrete steps that dot every house in Pittsburgh.  It’s hilly here..and it was snowing — like the second time this year, so it was also pretty.

My thought was that squirrels can’t remember where they bury each and every nut.  Heck, they spend half the year trying to find what they had the other part of the year, but that’s another parallel…

No, this one’s about how if you just keep at it, you will find what you need.  Nuts get buried by one squirrel, only to be uncovered by another, and the two probably have never met.  Mighty oak trees are started from forgetful mammals.  How strange is that?  Think about that the next time you’re doing a menial task.  Someone, somewhere will be thankful that you did.

Now if I were a self-proclaimed marketing Guru (okay, you got me there), here’s where I’d say a catch phrase like, “Take action”, but also something that most people won’t tell you.  You’re going to fail — like it or not — somewhere down the line and hopefully, it’ll be darn near the beginning of your journey (when it doesn’t cost you nearly as much).

I’ve failed…and keep failing, but I’m also learning.  That’s the difference.

Keep trying, keep creating, keep putting yourself out there and something will ‘align’ IF you stay alert and flexible.

If you want to stay at whatever level you are now, then say things like, “I don’t want to try that because it’s not what I do.”  How do you know, if you don’t try it first?

Now let me back up and say that I’m not trying to convince you to go hog-wild and buy every course out there just because it’s a new, shiny object — mobile, local, apps, seo, Facebook, Twitter, Google+…the list goes on and on.  You still have to use your brains people.  Siri won’t do it for you, nor will HAL 9000…

Yes it’s difficult.  Yes, you’ll encounter people who won’t like you for some reason, but that’s okay.  Keep at it.  Now, I’m not saying you should beat a dead horse, but don’t give up either.  Your train doesn’t have to jump the tracks, but perhaps consider switching at the next junction to another parallel destination.

Remember the journey?  Some say that’s what Life is about.  Others say that it doesn’t matter as long as you get to where you want to be.  Either way, there’s nothing to fear if you bumble in between — at least until the End of an Age.  😉
